The senior infielder has been a steady performer in the field and at the plate. Carver scored the winning run in the eighth inning of Game 1 of the state championship series against Northside-Pinetown in Holly Springs. DURHAM – Sam Davidson of Asheboro tied for 13th place in the North Carolina Amateur, which wrapped up Sunday at Croasdaile Country Club. Davidson, who tied for the runner-up spot in the tournament last year, finished at 2-under par 282 after rounds of 71, 72, 69 and 70 across four days. The champion was Oak Island’s Walker Isley, who won by a tournament-record 15 shots. Isley, a UNC Wilmington golfer, finished at 25-under 259 following rounds of 70, 63, 64 and 62. Lagrama is a former softball coach at Southwestern Randolph. His interim role came when the school sought a replacement for first-year coach Brian Gusa. She pitched every inning in both games as the Cougars captured the title by sweeping Midway in games held at UNC Greensboro. Gillespie coached state champions in Greensboro Kevin Gillespie, who made two of his four stops as a high school football head coach in Randolph County, announced his retirement Friday. Gillespie stepped down from his post at Thomasville, where he spent the past four seasons. Gillespie coached at Trinity and Asheboro, with a stop in between to guide Greensboro Page to a state championship. He had an overall record of 172-110 after going 32-12 with Thomasville.
