Asheboro’s baseball team went into this week’s Mid-Piedmont Conference Tournament on a four-game winning streak. The Blue Comets toppled Jordan-Matthews twice in non-league play last week. A 10-2 home result came with Adam Curry and Gavin Allen leading the offense. ASHEBORO — Wheatmore sophomore Silas Jessup won the Piedmont Athletic Conference championship in boys’ tennis for the second year in a row in singles. He topped Southwestern Randolph’s Rodolfo Fiscal by 6-1, 6-0 in the final earlier this week at Asheboro Memorial Park. Jessup earlier defeated Randleman’s Malaqui Swift 6-0, 6-0 and handled Providence Grove’s Micah Oates 6-0, 6-0. She’s often described as an anchor on the defensive end, though her contributions have extended up the field.
