The Eagles will have to wait a little longer to learn their opponent. UCA (20-10) wrapped up the West Region title by winning Thursday night at Eastern Randolph to complete a two-game swept of the best-of-3 three regional finals. It’s not so clear in the East Region. Clutch late-inning work boosts UCA’s baseball team RAMSEUR – It was pretty much a matter of Uwharrie Charter Academy’s baseball team making the best of tough situations Thursday night. By doing so, the Eagles are heading to where they want to go. UCA completed a Class 1-A West Regional finals sweep of Eastern Randolph by winning 8-1 in Game 2, scoring all their runs in the last two innings. “It still hasn’t sunk in,” UCA senior Ben Medinger said of the chance to play for a state title.…

Wheatmore, girls’ soccer Ringley has been a reliable player for the Warriors, who are trying to complete another undefeated season. She’s a defender and midfielder. A senior, Ringley rates high on the team in steals. Through the Warriors’ first 21 games, she had tallied four goals and seven assists. Some of her best work might come on the defensive end in the rare times Wheatmore has been challenged. The Warriors gave up only eight goals during the regular season.

Looking to repeat as state champions, the Warriors improved their record to 22-0 by defeating seventh-seeded Wilkes Central 6-1 in Monday night’s third-round game. Ellie Garrison scored three goals, Summer Bowman scored two and Natalie Bowman had one goal. Wilkes Central fell to 15-6. Next is Thursday night’s home game against No. 14 seed Community School of Davidson.…

Carter shot rounds of 70 and 77 for 3-over-par 147 last week at Pinehurst No. 6. He was behind only Mitchell’s Connor Warren, the defending champion who checked in at 11-under 133 with rounds of 65 and 68. Causey collects for big win at Caraway Speedway

It was part of the David “Lightning” Saunders Memorial, with winnings of $3,000. That included a $1,000 bonus. Causey was the fastest qualifier and drew the No. 5 starting position. Causey had to contend with the father-son tandem of Jason York and Jamie York. Causey went to the front on the 80th lap after a competition caution and held the lead until the end.…
