Uwharrie Charter Academy’s bid to win a third consecutive state championship in Class 1A baseball will come as the No. 5 seed in the West Region.
The pairings and brackets were revealed Monday in advance of Tuesday’s first-round games.
UCA is set for a home game against No. 28 seed Bessemer City. If the Eagles win, they’ll be home again Friday night in the second round.
Six other teams from Randolph County also are in the state playoffs.
Eastern Randolph drew the No. 15 seed in Class 1A with a home date vs. No. 18 Cornerstone Charter.
In Class 2A, Piedmont Athletic Conference champion Randleman holds the No. 6 seed with an opening home date against conference rival and neighbor Providence Grove, the No. 27 seed. The winner meets either No. 11 seed Madison or No. 22 seed East Surry later in the week in the second round.
No. 14 seed Trinity opens at home against No. 19 seed Mt. Pleasant. The winner has either third-seeded West Stokes or No. 30 seed East Davidson in the second round.
Wheatmore made the field as the No. 31 seed, going to No. 2 seed North Stanly. Southwestern Randolph landed in the final spot in the West Region field, assigned to visit top-seeded East Rutherford.
