ASHEBORO — Will Dabbs scored 30 points and the Providence Grove boys’ basketball team disrupted the pecking order in the Piedmont Athletic Conference by winning 63-50 at Uwharrie Charter Academy on Friday night. Andrew Thomas notched 13 points as Patriots knocked UCA out of a share of first place in a crowded PAC race. Providence Grove enters this week in a third-place tie with UCA (at 4-2) behind Randleman (5-1) and Eastern Randolph (4-1). Uwharrie Charter Academy delivered the first loss of the season on the Tigers, winning 61-56 in a Piedmont Athletic Conference road game. Aaron Smith’s 21 points led the Eagles, while Braeden Lamb added 18 points. Smith, who also grabbed 11 rebounds, shot 7-for-10 from the field and 8-for-9 on free throws. Andrew Thomas scored on a putback with 14 seconds remaining to defeat host Southern Alamance 57-55. (Randolph Record) Eastern Randolph and Uwharrie Charter Academy took different paths to the third round of the Class 1-A state playoffs in baseball. Each team won twice in the first week of the state playoffs. No. 21 seed Eastern Randolph (6-17) won two road games, beginning with a 9-5 ousting of No. 12 seed Mount Airy.
