SOPHIA – The 36th edition of Caraway Speedway’s Thanksgiving Classic has been postponed for about two months. Last Sunday’s version of the event was called off because of expected rainy weather. So Russell Hackett’s Original Thanksgiving Classic has been moved to Jan. 29. Hirschman, a driver from Pennsylvania, became an eight-time winner of the 20-year event with Saturday’s victory at Caraway Speedway. Burt Myers of Winston-Salem placed second, while fast qualifier Patrick Emerling, a New Yorker, was third. SOPHIA – Championship night has nearly arrived at Caraway Speedway. Track champions will be determined Saturday night at the speedway. After some weather-related cancelations involving scheduled race nights at the track, this should be a busy regular-season finale. Races are set for Late Models (60 laps), Modifieds (35), Challengers (35), Mini Stocks (20), UCARs (15), Legacy (25), Bootleggers (10) and Enduro (10). Fall league approaches for area high schools ASHEBORO – The annual fall baseball league that involves teams representing high schools around the region is set to begin next week at McCrary Park. Seven teams will participate, representing Asheboro, Uwharrie Charter Academy, Chatham Central, Jordan-Matthews, Lee County, Montgomery Central and North Moore. There are two games on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays beginning at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., with one game Thursday at 6 p.m. Each team will play two games per week. ASHEBORO – Neel Ladde of Charlotte won the Junior Amateur golf tournament during the weekend at Asheboro Municipal Golf Course. Ladde posted a total of 107 for 27 holes in the tournament that was reduced because of weather interfering. He had rounds of 36 and 71. Second place went to Lexington’s Steele Fischer (38-78) with 116 and third place went to Eastern Randolph rising senior Connor Carter (41-76) with 117.
