Wheatmore, boys’ golf Ryan Marshall of Wheatmore was the Piedmont Athletic Conference champion by shooting 5-over-par 77 last week at Holly Ridge Golf Links. Marshall, a junior, shot sub-40 on both the front side and backside for a five-stroke edge on Trinity’s Bo Earnhardt. On Monday, Marshall placed third in the Class 2-A Midwest Regional to reserve a spot in next week’s state tournament. In the PAC Tournament, Wheatmore’s 345 team total was 10 shots better than runner-up Uwharrie Charter Academy, while Providence Grove (358) and Southwestern Randolph (360) also contended. Juke Harris, a Wake Forest signee, poured in 34 points for Salisbury, which won its 20th consecutive game. Sixth-seeded Randleman (23-6), the regular-season and tournament champion in the Piedmont Athletic Conference, received 22 points from Tyshaun Goldston and 14 points from Connor Cassidy. NEWTON – Randleman’s boys’ basketball team kept its season alive with Tuesday night’s 62-59 victory against Newton-Conover in the third round of the Class 2-A state playoffs. Tyshaun Goldston scored 21 points for the sixth-seeded Tigers (23-5), who’ll play Friday night at second-seeded Salisbury (26-3) in a West Region semifinal Connor Cassidy’s 18 points and Greg Price’s 11 points also boosted Randleman, which held on after leading 52-41 going to the fourth quarter. Trinity, wrestling Dennis is wrapping up another stellar season for the Bulldogs. He won four matches last week to win the Class 2-A Midwest Regional at 132 pounds. He recorded two pins and a technical fall before defeating East Surry’s Michael Fischer 6-2 in the final. Dennis, a senior, holds a 49-1 record this season. Last February, he placed fifth in the state at 126. He received All-Piedmont Athletic Conference recognition the past two years.
