Jani Norwood (Courtesy photo) RAMSEUR – Jani Norwood of Eastern Randolph officially became a member of the signing class for the North Carolina football team this week. The senior lineman was a four-year starter on the offensive line. This year, he was named the Piedmont Athletic Conference’s Defensive Player of the Year for his work on the defensive front for the Wildcats, who won their third consecutive conference championship. Twenty of North Carolina’s 27 signees, including Norwood, are listed as early enrollees and another comes as a junior college transfer. Eastern Randolph, football Taylor has been one of the main playmakers for the Wildcats during their Piedmont Athletic Conference championship season. Taylor is a receiver who has been one of the primary targets for quarterback Carter Revelle, who has thrown for 30 touchdowns. The Wildcats (12-1) have won three games in the Class 1-A state playoffs at home. Next is Friday night’s West Region semifinal at Mount Airy. Taylor also was a key player on Eastern Randolph’s state finalist boys’ basketball team during the last school year.

The Wildcats (5-1) also returned a blocked punt for a touchdown. Quarterback Carter Revelle ran for a touchdown from 16 yards out to begin the scoring. Eastern Randolph lineman Jani Norwood was selected for the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas. The game pitting top football seniors from North Carolina against top seniors from South Carolina will be held Dec. 16 in Spartanburg, S.C. Norwood has committed to play for the University of North Carolina. He’s considered one of the state’s top offensive linemen. The head coach for the North Carolina team is Johnny Sowell of Monroe. RANDLEMAN – John Kirkpatrick threw two touchdown passes and ran for another touchdown in undefeated Randleman’s 53-14 trouncing of visiting Asheboro in Friday night’s non-conference football game. Edison Hernandez scored on two touchdown runs and Randleman (5-0) never trailed. Kirkpatrick completed 19 of 28 throws for 310 yards.
