Prep Baseball: Randleman racks up another PAC title; UCA takes down Eastern Randolph twice

RANDLEMAN – Randleman wrapped up another Piedmont Athletic Conference baseball championship by defeating visiting Providence Grove 8-1 on Friday night.   The Tigers improved to 10-0 in league play. Randleman will be the top seed for the PAC Tournament in a couple of weeks, a spot clinched because the Tigers beat Wheatmore twice.   Only Wheatmore can pull even with the Tigers, but that would require the Warriors winning their four remaining league games and Randleman losing twice to a sub-.500 Trinity team.   Randleman has lost just two conference games in a four-season span.   Jake Riddle struck out…

Randleman, softball ‌Ivey has made quite an impression as a pitcher and batter in the opening weeks of her freshman season for Randleman. The left-handed pitcher rolled up four victories in her first five decisions. She recorded 39 strikeouts in 31 innings. She also has come through with key hits for the Tigers, who won seven of their first eight games. Ivey posted two of the team’s first three home runs this season.

Here’s an overview:   Baseball   Randleman blanked Wheatmore 10-0 at home behind Jake Riddle’s pitching in the Piedmont Athletic Conference. Wheatmore, baseball ‌Kines, a junior left-hander, has been a key pitcher for the Warriors, who won three of their first five games. The Warriors opened Piedmont Athletic Conference play last week by defeating rival Trinity twice. Kines was the starting pitcher for the league opener. During the previous week, Kines struck out 10 Asheboro batters in four innings of Wheatmore’s season-opening victory. Kines is fresh off the basketball season when he led the Warriors in scoring.

Trinity alum Sheffield takes football job at Wheatmore

Jacob Sheffield (Courtesy photo) TRINITY – Jacob Sheffield is the new football coach at Wheatmore, but his ties to the school extend more than a decade. Most recently, Sheffield has been an assistant coach at rival Trinity, his alma mater. He said he has “fallen on both sides of the tracks” when it comes to the neighboring schools. He takes the vacancy left when Philip Yarbrough resigned after seven seasons as Wheatmore’s football coach. The Warriors were 2-8 last year. RANDLEMAN – Randleman tightened its stronghold on Piedmont Athletic Conference girls’ basketball. The Tigers won the PAC Tournament for the third year in a row. Friday night’s home victory against second-seeded Southwestern Randolph came with Chenleigh Robinson tallying 19 points and Audra Petty providing 17 points. Southwestern Randolph (23-4) received 14 points from Jordin George and nine points from Macy Allred. The Cougars are 0-3 vs. Randleman this season.
