Light schedule of prep football moved to Saturday night (updated)

High school football games in Randolph County this week have been moved for a second time to try to find a window of good weather. Now, the games originally slated for Friday night are set for 6 p.m. Saturday (after a mid-week decision to play those Thursday night was scrapped because of more weather-related concerns). There are just two games involving county teams this week as five other teams all are scheduled to be off. Game times have been adjusted. Staying undefeated in high school football meant dramatics for Randleman and Eastern Randolph in Friday night’s games. Randleman needed a fourth-quarter comeback and overtime to withstand host Asheboro. Eastern Randolph scored the on the final play to top visiting Central Davidson. Randleman 34, Asheboro 27, OT: Brayden Gladden scored on a touchdown run in overtime and the Tigers (5-0) began the extra session with points. Southwestern Randolph, football Reed, a senior receiver and linebacker, has been a key contributor on offense and defense for the Cougars, who’ll go for their third consecutive victory this week at Albemarle In last week’s triumph at McMichael, Reed led the Cougars with 72 receiving yards. His presence on defense might have been a bigger factor, with his 10 tackles including three tackles for loss. He also intercepted a pass. Prep football: Asheboro reaches two-win mark for first time in five years (updated)

ASHEBORO – Quincey Lee ran for two touchdowns and Asheboro’s football team reached the two-win mark for the first time in five years by defeating visiting Providence Grove 17-10 on Friday night in a non-conference game. Asheboro’s Connor Brinton gained 155 yards on 24 carries. Micah Garcia drilled a 24-yard field goal. Lee also led Asheboro’s defense with an interception and a fumble recovery. Asheboro sets stadium rules to monitor fans

ASHEBORO – Safety is at the forefront of new spectator rules established for Asheboro’s Lee. J. Stone Stadium, athletics director Wes Berrier said. The rules require that spectators remain in the stands unless they’re in line for the restrooms or concession stands.
