Prep basketball roundup: Randleman boys make early PAC statement

RANDLEMAN – Randleman made perhaps the first big statement in Piedmont Athletic Conference boys’ basketball by knocking off defending champion Eastern Randolph 71-50 last week. Tyshaun Goldston’s 18 points and Greg Price’s 15 points were tops for the Tigers. Timothy Brower had 24 points for Eastern Randolph. Randleman, girls’ basketball Petty is one of the returning players for the Tigers, who had a strong senior class last season. She has been up the task. Petty, a senior guard, posted 24 points against Asheboro and 27 points against Ledford in a pair of games last week. In Randleman’s first three games, Petty has averaged 26.3 points and a team-high 8.3 rebounds. She also was credited with 2.7 steals per game. It worked out well for a couple of Randolph County football teams playing home games Friday night when the state playoffs began. Not so much for teams going on the road. Eastern Randolph and Randleman were the lone county teams to keep their seasons alive. RANDLEMAN – Carter Revelle threw 39 yards to Nicah Taylor for a third-quarter touchdown in a 22-21 victory against previously undefeated Randleman on Friday night in the regular-season finale to determine the Piedmont Athletic Conference championship. The Wildcats (9-1 overall, 5-0 PAC) have gone unbeaten in 15 games in the conference’s current configuration. Revelle threw for two touchdowns, completing 12 of 16 passes for 162 yards.
