ARCHDALE — Ryan Marshall’s even-par 72 was the winning score in the Piedmont Athletic Conference Tournament for boys’ golf last week at Holly Ridge Golf Links. Providence Grove was the team champion, with three golfers among the top 10. Marshall, also last year’s champion, posted 37 on the frontside and 35 on the back nine. Brady Collins of Providence Grove was the runner-up with 76, followed by Eastern Randolph’s Emmitt Frye (77), Trinity’s Bo Earnhardt (78) and Providence Grove’s Cooper Wright (79). ASHEBORO — Wheatmore sophomore Silas Jessup won the Piedmont Athletic Conference championship in boys’ tennis for the second year in a row in singles. He topped Southwestern Randolph’s Rodolfo Fiscal by 6-1, 6-0 in the final earlier this week at Asheboro Memorial Park. Jessup earlier defeated Randleman’s Malaqui Swift 6-0, 6-0 and handled Providence Grove’s Micah Oates 6-0, 6-0. ASHEBORO – An undefeated record for Southwestern Randolph’s girls’ basketball team was dashed in the Piedmont Athletic Conference Tournament championship game. Uwharrie Charter Academy churned out a 49-43 victory Friday night. It’s the first conference tournament championship for the Eagles, who held the No. 3 seed and avenged to regular-season losses.
