Southwestern Randolph grad receives Mountaire Farms award

SILER CITY – Kaley Elliott, a graduate of Southwestern Randolph High School, is the recipient of a Mountaire Farms scholarship. Children and grandchildren of employees, growers, and grain producers were eligible for the scholarship, which provides $2,500 to help with college. There were 32 winners – 16 in North Carolina and 16 in the Delaware / Maryland area. Elliott, from Denton, plans to attend High Point University to study tourism and event management, according to a release from Mountaire Farms. First scholarship awarded honoring long-time deputy

Colonel Fred “Freddie” Wilson Rutledge, II created a legacy of service during his 38 years of law enforcement service. Following his death in July of 2020, Rutledge’s friends and family ensured that his legacy would extend to future generations with the founding of a scholarship fund in his memory.  Last week, the first Fred Rutledge scholarship at Randolph Community College was awarded to Cadet Justice McDaniel.
