Defending Class 1-A state champion Uwharrie Charter Academy and undefeated Class 2-A team Trinity held up their ends to begin the wrestling dual team state playoffs. They're tops-seeded teams and looked the part when those competitions began Saturday with two rounds on their respective home mats. UCA and Trinity advanced to this week’s third round, which is set for Wednesday. Winners in the third round meet against in regional finals later Wednesday. Defending Class 1-A state champion Uwharrie Charter Academy and undefeated Trinity both received top seeds in their respective regions for the wrestling dual team state playoffs, which begin Saturday with two rounds. Uwharrie Charter Academy, wrestling McArthur continues to rack up victories during his senior season on the mats. He has been a regular qualifier for the state tournament during his career with the Eagles. He has moved up to the middle weights, often competing at 138 pounds. UCA is coming off another big week in duals. First, there was a 72-6 victory against Eastern Randolph in the Piedmont Athletic Conference. ASHEBORO – Preston Steele has had connections to Uwharrie Charter Academy boys’ basketball players and those are becoming stronger. Steele is the team’s new coach. He took the position after it came open a few weeks ago. “I think it was the need that they had,” Steele said. “Things played out fast.
