Uwharrie Charter Academy, boys’ basketball Lamb is a senior forward for the Eagles, who’ve started the season by winning 10 of their first 11 games. They’ve matched last season’s win total. When UCA began its Piedmont Athletic Conference schedule last week, Lamb tallied 24 points in a 59-47 victory against Providence Grove. That outcome pushed the team’s winning streak to three games. The Eagles defeated visiting Trinity 45-18 in last week’s dual meet in a clash between dual team state champions from last season. UCA won all the bouts in weight classes lower than 150 pounds. Asheboro might have new league partners, while UCA bumps up Schools in Randolph County will continue to be spread across three classifications in an upcoming realignment, but there’s a different makeup regarding the schools within the North Carolina High School Athletic Association. Asheboro, in particular, could have some new company in terms of fellow conference members. The NCHSAA is expanding from four to eight classifications beginning with the next school year. DENTON – The beginning of basketball season came with special results for Trinity’s girls’ and boys’ basketball teams Friday night. The girls’ team ended a long losing streak, while the boys’ team embarked on a season with a new coach for the first time in more than three decades. GREENSBORO – Two-time state wrestling champion Lorenzo Alston of Uwharrie Charter Academy posted a 2-2 record in the Super 32 Challenge last weekend at the coliseum complex in Greensboro. Alston, who has rolled to a pair of Class 1A state titles, is a junior. Several Randolph County wrestlers entered the Super 32 Challenge, which is one of the premier events for wrestlers of high school age and attracted participants from around the country, including those with international age-group championships. ASHEBORO – Uwharrie Charter Academy’s volleyball team has tightened the race atop the Piedmont Athletic Conference. The Eagles pulled even with first-place Randleman in the loss column by defeating the visiting Tigers last week.
