ASHEBORO – The Randolph County Board of Elections will conduct a hearing at 4 p.m. Dec. 2 to consider an election protest filed by Judge Jefferson Griffin. Based on a filing with Randolph County, the matter involves a challenge to the voting eligibility of six alleged Randolph County voters. ASHEBORO – Holiday activities will kick into gear in Asheboro just a couple of days after Thanksgiving. Mayor David Smith will light the city’s Christmas tree at 6 p.m. Saturday in downtown Asheboro. That will serve as the launch of weeks of holiday events in downtown. Compared to previous years, the lighting ceremony will be earlier on the calendar. ASHEBORO – The City of Asheboro, as a public water provider, has reviewed its monitoring procedures of water lines in an effort to assure compliance with the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act. A report from city officials says that Asheboro has been and continues to be compliant with all federal and state rules regulating lead and copper in drinking water. Asheboro to study downtown parking, seeks public input

The city has commissioned Walker Consultants to develop a study and strategic parking management plan for the business district. Rivenbark tallied more than 55,000 or 78 percent of votes cast, easily defeating Democrat Jane Ledwell-Gant. Rivenbark takes the seat that’s held by Maxton McDowell. In March, Rivenbark defeated Chris McLeod and McDowell in the Republican primary. ASHEBORO – High school students in the Randolph County School System can select from a variety of program offerings through Randolph Community College in a new partnership announced last week. It’s called a Workforce Roadmap as part of a college and career readiness Continuum. This is an expansion of a program that began in 2003.
