The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to a vandalism call Jan. 17 at a power substation on Post Road, Thomasville, in Randolph County. The reporting person, a representative of EnergyUnited, advised the company received an alarm at the substation and, upon inspection, found and reported the damage. Criminal Investigations and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene to investigate and collect evidence at the site. The Federal Bureau of Investigations and North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) were also notified. The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force responded to conduct a parallel investigation. Toyota adds to plans for megasite

LIBERTY – Toyota announced an additional investment of $2.5 billion in its newest North American facility, Toyota Battery Manufacturing North Carolina at the Greensboro-Randolph megasite. Last week’s announcement means added capacity to support battery electric vehicle battery production and adds 350 jobs, bringing the total employment to approximately 2,100. Scheduled to begin production in 2025, the facility will produce batteries for hybrid electric vehicles and battery electric vehicles. Construction has begun.
