Asheboro man contends in Four-Ball event WILSON – An Asheboro golfer was among the contenders in the North Carolina Super Senior Four-Ball Championships last month. Charlie Parks of Asheboro and playing partner Doug Owens of Albemarle placed third in the 65-and-older division at Wilson Country Club. Parks and Owens had rounds 71 and 67 for a two-round total of 6-under-par 138. That left them a shot behind the tandems of Surf City’s Gary Howze / Claremont’s Randall Sullins and Morrisville’s Preston Edmondson / Pinehurst’s Steve Fox among the 28 teams in the division. TRINITY – Bear Bradley is taking a job as a football head coach at a school in Randolph County. Even though it’s a different stop than in a previous role, he said it feels like a return to a comfort zone. Bradley has become the football coach at Trinity, leaving a similar position at Southern Guilford. “The more I got thinking about it, I think it was one of those things, I already had some of those relationships,” Bradley said. “To be back in Randolph County, and people you’ve known. Asheboro, girls’ soccer Flores has been a big part of Asheboro’s offense, and that has helped the Blue Comets in their first two Mid-Piedmont Conference games. A senior forward and striker, Flores has provided five goals and a team-leading five assists. She has regularly been one of Asheboro’s top threats. This continues a trend because she was second on the team in both goals and assists last year. Asheboro pulled out a pair of victories in Mid-Piedmont Conference play last week. Eastern Randolph, softball Eastern Randolph carried a four-game winning streak into spring break, and McDaniel did her part. Posting two hits in a Piedmont Athletic Conference victory against Randleman was among her contributions. McDaniel, a senior infielder, also drove in two runs in the Randleman game. She had a hit and scored a run in a 2-1 victory at Northern Guilford. She also scored in a one-run decision against Providence Grove. With six doubles and 13 runs batted in, she’s among the team leaders in several offensive categories. McDaniel was an All-PAC girls’ golfer in the fall.

Wheatmore, baseball Kimball has been a boost at the plate for the Warriors in their quest for a turnaround season. Wheatmore won three of four games in a seven-day span. That included two victories against Eastern Randolph in Piedmont Athletic Conference play and a non-league triumph at West Davidson. Earlier this month, Kimball, a senior, had a hit in each game against Randleman. He homered in one of those two games. The Warriors, who haven’t had a winning season since 2018, entered this week with a 5-5 overall record.
