Towns of Archdale, Liberty selected for rural communities Commerce Dept. program

A total of 19 rural communities from across the state have been selected to participate in a new program to increase their capacity to plan, implement, and manage economic development programs and opportunities. The Rural Community Capacity (RC2) program, a pilot initiative from the N.C. Commerce Department involving Appalachian State University’s Walker College of Business, welcomed its first cohort of participants in Boone Tuesday. Malcolm Buchanan of Archdale turned up with the $1 million prize through the North Carolina Lottery. Buchanan became the second winner of the new sweepstakes. The 50X The Cash game launched in February with eight top prizes of $1 million. There are six unclaimed prizes in that mix among the $10 scratch-off tickets. Buchanan purchased his ticket from Speedway on West Fairfield Road in High Point. Upon claiming his prize, he had to choose between an annuity of $50,000 across 20 years or a lump sum of $600,000. Joint investigation yields fentanyl, meth charges

ARCHDALE — An investigation by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office resulted in a sizeable drug bust last week. Deputies who were part of the Vice and Narcotics Division collected “a trafficking amount” of fentanyl and methamphetamine from a Spencer Road home. Firearms and drug paraphernalia were also seized. The haul of drugs included: 1.7 pounds of Fentanyl and nearly a pound of methamphetamine. Deputies also seized bath salts and steroids. ASHEBORO — The Randolph County Schools announced their "STAR 3" Students for September, 2021. STAR 3 students are recognized for being “Respectful, Responsible, and Doing the Right Thing.” The Board of Education recognizes these students and their accomplishments at a designated board meeting. New Trinity Middle School to open in the fall

TRINITY — The opening of the new Trinity Middle School means the end of an era for one local school and a name change for another. When Wheatmore High School opened for the 2009-10, to alleviate overcrowding at Trinity High School, Braxton Craven School and Archdale-Trinity Middle School became the middle school feeders to both high schools. This August, Archdale-Trinity Middle School will become Wheatmore Middle School and Braxton Craven School will not reopen. The name change to Wheatmore Middle will also mean the school colors will shift to the red and white of Wheatmore.
