Parks shot rounds of 71 and 67 for a total of 7-under-par 138. Asheboro’s Davidson places 13th in N.C. Amateur

DURHAM – Sam Davidson of Asheboro tied for 13th place in the North Carolina Amateur, which wrapped up Sunday at Croasdaile Country Club. Davidson, who tied for the runner-up spot in the tournament last year, finished at 2-under par 282 after rounds of 71, 72, 69 and 70 across four days. The champion was Oak Island’s Walker Isley, who won by a tournament-record 15 shots. Isley, a UNC Wilmington golfer, finished at 25-under 259 following rounds of 70, 63, 64 and 62. ARCHDALE – Dale Fuller of Raleigh was the winner in the North Carolina Senior Amateur held earlier this month at Holly Ridge Golf Links. Fuller’s three-round total of 7-under-ar 209 was good for a three-stroke edge on Pinehurst’s Daniel Neveu. Paul Simson, a multi-time champion on the Carolinas Golf Association circuit, from Raleigh, Tee Burton of Shelby and Jonathan Sielsky of Huntersville tied for third place at 3 under. Asheboro golfer places in North Carolina Super Seniors

MOORESVILLE – Asheboro’s Charlie Parks finished tied for 12th place in the 70-plus division of the North Carolina Super Senior Championship. Parks shot rounds of 77 and 73 for a 6-over total in competition conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association on Sept. 6-7 at Mooresville Golf Club. There were 47 entrants in the 70-plus division, which was won by Raleigh’s Dee Blankenhorn at 6-under (68, 70). He won by five shots on Robert Desjardins of Matthews. Todd Hendley of Columbus was the winner in the 65-and-older class with 7-under 137.

There was drama last month at Asheboro Municipal Golf Course for the North Carolina Junior Boys’ 14-and-under championship. That’s because it took John John Santospago of Charlotte seven playoff holes in order to secure the championship. Hank Johnson of Newland settled for second place. They played Nos. 1 and 9 repeatedly during the playoff for five holes until moving to No. 2, with both golfers making par. Then at par-4 No. 3, Santospago used a par to claim the title.
