ASHEBORO — Randolph Communications has awarded scholarships to eight high school students as part of its annual scholarship program. (PJ Ward-Brown/Randolph Record) RAMSEUR – A Siler City woman was airlifted to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill from an accident scene near Eastern Randolph High School early Wednesday afternoon. Asjiah Salome Rivera, 21, suffered serious injuries, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. The accident occurred on U.S. 64 at Lee Layne Road in Randolph County. Gun taken from Eastern Randolph student

RAMSEUR – A student was found with a firearm at Eastern Randolph High School on Friday, deputies said. The Randolph County Sheriff's Office said in a news release that a school resource officer received a report that a student had a gun on campus. The school resource officer found the student, and a search of the student led to the officer confiscating the gun. The firearm was secured without incident. Eastern Randolph, football Thomas, a senior, had a solid final football season for the Wildcats, who had the longest postseason run among teams from Randolph County. Eastern Randolph finished with an 11-2 record. For the second year in a row, the team was undefeated in the Piedmont Athletic Conference. Thomas was a receiver for the Wildcats, who averaged 36 points per game. He also has been a member of the school’s boys’ basketball program.
