ASHEBORO – Aiden Robinson ran 15 yards for a third-quarter touchdown and Asheboro’s football team won a Mid-Piedmont Conference game for the first time since 2019, defeating visiting North Davidson 17-14 on Friday night. Robinson’s go-ahead run and Micah Garcia’s extra-point kick were the only points of the second half. Asheboro (3-5 overall, 1-2 Mid-Piedmont Conference) opened the scoring on an 11-yard touchdown pass from Logan Laughlin to Elijah Woodley in the first quarter. Asheboro, volleyball LeRoy is a key part of the Blue Comets’ offense as the team had a strong regular season in the Mid-Piedmont Conference. LeRoy, a senior setter, is the team leader in assists. When Asheboro swept Ledford and Montgomery Central last week, LeRoy led the team in assists in both matches. She also racked up a total of seven aces in those two outings. Providence Gove snaps a four-game losing streak by winning at Trinity Eastern Randolph and Randleman football teams had no problems at the launch of Piedmont Athletic Conference play. The undefeated squads rolled in their respective league openers Friday night. Asheboro, football Woodle, a senior receiver and defensive back, is bound to be a key part of the Blue Comets’ offense this year as one of the top returning playmakers. He made a pair of catches in the team’s season-opening victory at Albemarle. Last year, he racked up 10 touchdown receptions to go with a team-high 780 receiving yards. He made a team-best 47 catches. Woodle doesn’t limit his contributions to football for Asheboro. He also plays basketball and competes in track and field. Rudisill has been on the Bunker Hill baseball staff for the past three seasons, including the past two as head coach.
