Providence Grove, football, basketball, golf Collins excelled throughout the school year, capped by his All-Piedmont Athletic Conference status in boys’ golf as a senior. Collins had big impacts during his career in football and basketball as well. He also had been a member of the baseball program. A linebacker, Collins was among the state’s leading tacklers during the 2024 regular season in football. Collins was the PAC runner-up in golf. He was a multi-time all-conference selection in football and golf. He was picked for all-conference in basketball for 2023-24.

Trinity hires alums as new coaches

Molly Welch TRINITY — Molly Welch will be the new girls’ basketball coach at Trinity following the tenure of coach Michael Sink. Welch, a 2008 Trinity graduate, is a former assistant coach for the program from 2009-11 under her mother, Renee Croker Hayes. The Bulldogs are coming off an 8-17 season under coach Michael Sink. The team’s last winning season came in 2016-17. Welch has been back at Trinity since 2023 in various positions, including girls’ golf coach. She coached girls’ basketball at the middle school level. The Eagles defeated visiting Trinity 45-18 in last week’s dual meet in a clash between dual team state champions from last season. UCA won all the bouts in weight classes lower than 150 pounds. Home victory vs. Southwestern Randolph keeps record perfect in league play RANDLEMAN – Looks like there’s going to be hesitation if there’s a changing of the guard in Piedmont Athletic Conference girls’ basketball. Randleman, which has ruled the league in recent seasons, is the lone undefeated team in PAC play entering this week. Yet it sure looked like an upset when the host Tigers defeated Southwestern Randolph. Audra Petty scored 15 points and Chenleigh Robinson had 11 points when Randleman won 47-41 on Friday night. Wheatmore, girls’ basketball Hill helped the Warriors to a three-game winning streak. Wheatmore won home games against Southwestern Randolph and Uwharrie Charter Academy sandwiched around a road triumph at Providence Grove. Hill’s 20 points were huge in the 52-43 conquering of Southwestern Randolph. The sophomore guard had 17 points in the Providence Grove game. Going into this week, the Warriors had won five of their last six games. Wheatmore held a 3-3 record in the Piedmont Athletic Conference after an 0-3 start to league play.
