Providence Grove, girls’ soccer, tennis Swaim participated in three sports for the Patriots and made big impacts. Last fall, she was a member of the Piedmont Athletic Conference champion girls’ tennis team. That included a spot on the All-PAC team. As a senior, she was part of the conference’s third-place doubles tandem. Swaim played key roles for Providence Grove’s girls’ soccer team during the spring. The Patriots made a big jump, finishing second in the PAC and posting an overall 14-5-2 record. She filled a variety of roles on the soccer field. She was credited with eight goals and two…

Wheatmore girls add to success in soccer with another outright PAC crown

ASHEBORO – Wheatmore’s Ellie Garrison scored three goals and Bri Hill posted two goals as the Warriors clinched another outright Piedmont Athletic Conference championship in girls’ soccer, defeating visiting Uwharrie Charter Academy 5-4 on Monday night. UCA, which dropped out of a second-place tie, received two goals from Kendal Jarrell and another from Jazmin Palma. Also Monday, second-place Providence Grove zipped past host Eastern Randolph 9-0 with three goals apiece from Rylee Stover and Taryn Waugh. Providence Grove, girls’ soccer DuVall had a strong week, notching a pair of goals for the Patriots. DuVall, a senior, generally excels on the defensive end for Providence Grove, which has registered four shutouts in its first 11 games. Providence Grove entered this week on a three-game winning streak with a 6-3-2 overall record. In those games, the Patriots outscored opponents by a combined 20-1 total. Prep basketball: PAC play begins with tight girls’ games

Teams began play Friday night in the Piedmont Athletic Conference and there were a couple of close games in girls’ basketball. Defending champion Randleman received 21 points and 10 rebounds from Audra Petty in a 47-41 home victory against Wheatmore. Providence Grove edged visiting Uwharrie Charter Academy 59-53 with Brooke Ingram racking up 25 points. Southwestern Randolph had an easy time with visiting Trinity in a 55-4 result. Freshman Summer Bowman was part of one of the best seasons in Appalachian State women’s soccer history. Bowman, a former Wheatmore player, compiled four goals and three assists. She was second on the team in goals and her 11 points ranked third on the team. Bowman, a forward, appeared in 15 games, starting nine of those. The Mountaineers placed third in the Sun Belt regular season for its best winning percentage in conference play with a 6-2-2 mark.
