UCA teams seeded high for state playoffs in baseball, softball; Most area teams to start on road

Uwharrie Charter Academy softball and baseball teams have high seeds in the West Region for the state playoffs.

The seeds, which were announced Monday by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association, have both teams in line to play in regional finals in a couple of weeks. But there’s plenty of work to be done by then. The playoffs begin Tuesday, with potential second-round games Thursday or Friday.

*** BASEBALL ***

In Class 1-A, defending state champion UCA (20-5) is seeded No. 2, with a home game vs. No. 31 Bradford Prep (3-13).

Eastern Randolph (9-16), which was a regional finalist last year, is seeded No. 19 with a visit to No. 14 seed Corvian Community (11-9).

In Class 2-A, sixth-seeded Randleman (19-5) could have a pair of home games this week, beginning with No. 27 seed West Lincoln (13-8).

No. 22 seed Wheatmore (12-10) is at No. 11 seed Madison (10-11). Southwestern Randolph (9-14) got in the field as the No. 30 seed, going to third-seeded Eden Morehead (22-2).

In Class 3-A, No. 31 seed Asheboro (9-16) goes to second-seeded West Henderson (19-4).

*** SOFTBALL ***

In Class 1-A, UCA (17-3-1) is seeded No. 1, with a home game against No. 32 seed Mitchell (2-13).

Eastern Randolph (11-7) is seeded No. 12 with a home game against No. 21 Hiwasse Dam (7-9).

In Class 2-A, Southwestern Randolph (15-6) holds the No. 4 seed with a home game vs. No. 29 seed Walkertown (13-10).

Three other Randolph County teams will start on the road. Randleman (14-8) takes the No. 19 seed to 14th-seeded Mount Pleasant (11-7). Providence Grove (8-11) is seeded No. 27 with a trip to sixth-seeded West Stokes (17-4). No. 30 Wheatmore (7-12) goes to third-seeded Maiden (14-4).
