Awards were presented Saturday night at Caraway Speedway. SOPHIA – The top three drivers in each division were honored as part of Caraway Speedway’s awards banquet Saturday at the track. In Late Models, Coy Beard guided the No. 27 car to the division championship for the second time in three years. He won four features. Tony Black was second and Donnie Apple placed third. SANFORD – It was quite a week for Eastern Randolph’s basketball teams. The Wildcats won three games in the Lee County Christmas Classic in boys’ basketball to capture the tournament championship. Eastern Randolph nipped host Lee County 81-77, rolled past Western Harnett 103-47 and then took down Middle Creek 75-68 in the championship game. That pushed the Wildcats’ record to 10-1. Eastern Randolph won eight games all of last season. Davonte Brooks scored 17 vs. Lee County, 42 points vs. Western Harnett and 29 points vs. Middle Creek. Southwestern Randolph | girls’ basketball King was a key contributor to a pair of victories last week for the Cougars. The junior guard put up 16 points in Southwestern Randolph’s 67-15 non-conference home victory against Jordan-Matthews. King scored 17 points when the Cougars opened their Piedmont Athletic Conference schedule with a 53-45 victory at Trinity. She also had eight points in a 50-40 road loss to North Davidson.
