Eastern Randolph, football Thomas, a senior, had a solid final football season for the Wildcats, who had the longest postseason run among teams from Randolph County. Eastern Randolph finished with an 11-2 record. For the second year in a row, the team was undefeated in the Piedmont Athletic Conference. Thomas was a receiver for the Wildcats, who averaged 36 points per game. He also has been a member of the school’s boys’ basketball program.

ASHEBORO — The Randolph County Schools Board of Education met Monday, November 21, where they were given an update on SRO contracts, school improvement plans, and a potential calendar plan for future school years. Asheboro police patrol vehicles targeted in vandalism

Several patrol vehicles which belong to the Asheboro Police Department were vandalized with spray paint over the weekend. Police say that the patrol vehicles in the lot were spare vehicles and that the Criminal Investigations Division is currently investigating the case. At this time, no information on a suspect(s) or a motive has been released.

Randleman, football/boys’ basketball The seasons changed for Randleman, but Christian Long keeps on producing. After helping guide the Tigers to a second-place finish in the Piedmont Athletic Conference football standings as the starting quarterback, Long turned his attention to basketball. In last week’s season-opening 71-54 victory at Lexington, Long racked up 17 points. He made three of four 3-point shots and went 4-for-4 on free throws. ASHEBORO — The Randolph County Board of Commissioners met Monday to deliver their decision on how to allocate $600,00 in state funding. In addition, the board also approved four new SRO positions for the county elementary schools. Trinity  |  boys’ track and field Vickers was productive in his senior season for the Bulldogs, who he helped to the Piedmont Athletic Conference title. In the PAC championships, he was part of three point-producing events for Trinity. He placed second in the 400 meters in 58.63 seconds and took third in the triple jump at 35 feet, 1½ inches. ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Maggie Lowe

Southwestern Randolph  |  girls’ soccer Lowe scored 27 goals across 22 games to pace the Cougars in that category. Lowe also finished her senior season with seven assists for the third-most total on the team. The Cougars posted a 14-7-1 record. That was the team’s most victories since 2017. Lowe landed a spot on the All-Piedmont Conference team following the previous season’s selection for the 2021 All-Mid-Piedmont Conference team when Southwestern Randolph competed in a Class 3-A league. Lowe had a team-best six goals in the shortened 2021 season, with the Cougars playing ten games.
