Asheboro residents could see increase in city services bills

ASHEBORO — The City of Asheboro Council met last Thursday with the proposed 2022-23 fiscal year budget at the top of the agenda. HUDSON: Do something that matters

HUDSON: Do something that matters

As the father of an elementary school child, I am devastated every time we have a school shooting. That’s why identifying solutions to stop these tragedies is so important to me. I worked to enact the only two significant gun and school safety bills to recently pass Congress and become law. The Fix NICS Actand the STOP School Violence Act were both Republican bills, passed by a Republican majority, signed by a Republican president. The Democrat mantra has been “do something.” But my House Republican colleagues and I know the American people expect us to do something that matters. That’s…

(PJ Ward-Brown/ Randolph Record) ASHEBORO – There were 245 graduates in Asheboro High School’s Class of 2022, with the commencement ceremony taking place last Thursday night at Lee J. Stone Stadium. The school had the largest graduating class of any of the high schools in Randolph County. It was one of the few major events held on campus recently because of an…

Commencement ceremonies move inside for RCSS; Almost 900 receive diplomas

Here was the message on graduation night outside Providence Grove High School, where members of the Class of 2022 received diplomas. (Bob Sutton/Randolph Record) There was one last set of hurdles for members of the Class of 2022 in the Randolph County School System. That was adjustments for commencement ceremonies Wednesday night. All of those activities were moved indoors as storms battered the area. Nearly 900 graduates received from the six high schools holding events. While RCSS officials attended various commencements, superintendent Stephen Gainey naturally was present at Southwestern Randolph. His daughter, Kaitlyn Gainey, was one of the graduates –…

Post 81 takes satisfaction by topping county rival Post 45

Shortstop Nate Gardner played a key role for Post 81 in its victory against Randolph County Post 45. (PJ Ward-Brown/North State Journal file photo) RAMSEUR – It felt like an important game for Eastern Randolph Post 81 in the American Legion rematch with in-county rival Randolph County Post 45. The outcome seemed huge as well. “It’s big for Post 81 and Eastern Randolph district,” said center fielder Brody Gardner. “We don’t do it very often.” That’s because Post 81 pulled off a 15-6 victory Tuesday night at Craven Stadium. This was no sure-thing result. A nine-run outburst in the bottom…

HUDSON: Protecting our children

HUDSON: Protecting our children

It has been almost two weeks since the horrific attack at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Yet, the country continues to reel from the senseless act perpetrated that day. What happened in Uvalde was abhorrent and we should to everything we can so that it never happens again. This is a moment that demands action from both sides of the aisle. I have repeatedly joined with my House Republican colleagues to champion common sense measures that would directly improve areas like school safety and mental health. We want to save children’s lives and have come to the table with…

The County closed the final public hearings for the fire tax district restructuring for Climax, Franklinville, Guil-Rand and Westside fire departments and passed the resolution to officially change all four of them.  The four fire departments will still cover the same areas, the only change is that they will no longer be held to a 15 cent fire tax cap, albeit the departments still would have to get approval by the Board…
