State championships: Asheboro’s Everhart excels in indoor meet; UCA’s Becker places in swimming

WINSTON-SALEM – Lance Everhart of Asheboro placed third in three events in the Class 3-A indoor track and field state championships Saturday at JDL Fast Track. Everhart cleared 6 feet, 4 inches in the high jump, posted a mark of 13-6 in the pole vault and leaped 22-3 in the long jump. Kai Matthews of Asheboro was fifth in the long jump (21-6). On the girls’ side, Jalaya Showers had the 11th-best time in the 55 dash at 7.33 seconds.
