She won the 100-meter butterfly, 100 backstroke and took part in two first-place relays in competition at High Point Swim Club. Her backstroke time of 1 minute, 21.72 seconds reflected nearly a 17-second winning margin. Southwestern Randolph, girls’ basketball‌ George has been a productive contributor throughout the season for the Cougars, who are one of the area’s top teams in girls’ basketball. She’s a versatile sophomore. The Cougars won two games last week by defeating Eastern Randolph, with George scoring a team-high 15 points, and Wheatmore. That pushed the team’s record to 14-2. Last month, George was named Most Valuable Player of the SportsTone.net Invitational at Asheboro when the Cougars won three games on the way to the holiday tournament championship.

ASHEBORO – It was quite a week for Asheboro’s boys’ basketball team. The Blue Comets topped a strong in-county team to wrap up non-conference play and then won its Mid-Piedmont Conference opener. It all added up to a 10-game winning streak entering this week. Asheboro defeated visiting Eastern Randolph 80-75 in a highly anticipated matchup behind Jerquarius Stanback’s 26 points and David Rodriguez’s 25 points.
