ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Kinzie Ivey

Randleman, softball ‌Ivey has made quite an impression as a pitcher and batter in the opening weeks of her freshman season for Randleman. The left-handed pitcher rolled up four victories in her first five decisions. She recorded 39 strikeouts in 31 innings. She also has come through with key hits for the Tigers, who won seven of their first eight games. Ivey posted two of the team’s first three home runs this season.

Prep Roundup: Randleman makes early PAC baseball push; Southwestern Randolph, UCA have strong softball stretches

Prep Roundup: Array of results for area teams in baseball, softball, girls’ soccer

There were an array of results in baseball, softball and girls’ soccer last week for Randolph County teams. Here’s an overview:   Baseball   Randleman blanked Wheatmore 10-0 at home behind Jake Riddle’s pitching in the Piedmont Athletic Conference. Two nights later, the Tigers won 12-5 at Wheatmore with Tate Andrews driving in five runs and collecting four hits and Braxton Walker posting three runs batted in and three hits. Southwestern Randolph, softball Lowe was an all-conference selection in the Piedmont Athletic Conference for her senior season of softball. ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Skylar Pugh

Eastern Randolph, softball – Pugh was a force in the pitching circle and at the plate for the Wildcats during her senior season. She posted eight wins to go with two saves as a pitcher. She was credited with 131 strikeouts in 69 innings. Pugh’s four home runs were second on the team. Eastern Randolph finished with an 18-6 record. That’s the most wins for the Wildcats since 2019.

(Randolph Record file photo) ASHEBORO – Southwestern Randolph softball coach Chad Whitson has resigned after five seasons, the school announced Monday. The Cougars held a 65-22 record under Whitson’s direction. Toby Strider, who had been an assistant coach, has been promoted to head coach. Strider also previously coached at the middle school. The Cougars positioned a 22-2 record this year, going undefeated in Piedmont Athletic Conference play and ranking among the top teams in the state in Class 2-A.
