While a few days of scheduled competition were dashed because of inclement weather, here are some recent highlights: Softball Southwestern Randolph began its season with a pair of victories in Piedmont Athletic Conference play under new coach Toby Strider. Randleman and Eastern Randolph won Friday night in the West Region’s second round. In Class 2-A, Randleman defeated No. 22 seed East Gaston 63-46 behind Greg Price’s 21 points and Tyshaun Goldston’s 18 points. PAC girls: Randleman rules again, captures tourney

RANDLEMAN – Randleman tightened its stronghold on Piedmont Athletic Conference girls’ basketball. The Tigers won the PAC Tournament for the third year in a row. Friday night’s home victory against second-seeded Southwestern Randolph came with Chenleigh Robinson tallying 19 points and Audra Petty providing 17 points. Southwestern Randolph (23-4) received 14 points from Jordin George and nine points from Macy Allred. The Cougars are 0-3 vs. Randleman this season. Randleman has gone three consecutive seasons without a loss in PAC competition. The Tigers won tournament finals the past two seasons by defeating UCA and Eastern Randolph in the championship games.…

Southwestern Randolph, girls’ basketball‌ George has been a productive contributor throughout the season for the Cougars, who are one of the area’s top teams in girls’ basketball. She’s a versatile sophomore. The Cougars won two games last week by defeating Eastern Randolph, with George scoring a team-high 15 points, and Wheatmore. That pushed the team’s record to 14-2. Last month, George was named Most Valuable Player of the SportsTone.net Invitational at Asheboro when the Cougars won three games on the way to the holiday tournament championship.
