The Wildcats (3-0) notched their second road shutout of the season. Southern Lee fell to 1-1. Eastern Randolph blocked a Southern Lee field-goal attempt before scoring the first points of the game. Those points came on Cade McCallum’s touchdown pass to Rayden West. Randleman also remained undefeated. The Tigers (3-0) knocked off visiting Bunker Hill 35-21, scoring the game’s final 14 points. Andrews excited about transition at Trinity as new basketball coach

Brett Andrews (Courtesy photo) TRINITY – Brett Andrews doesn’t need to look at the projected Trinity roster for the upcoming boys’ basketball season. Nor does he have to scan the Bulldogs’ schedule. None of that matters because he knows he has his work cut out for him. He’s following legendary Tim Kelly as the Trinity coach. “I’d say coaching behind him is probably one of the toughest gets in North Carolina,” Andrews said. Southwestern Randolph (1-1) trailed 7-0 at halftime. Asher Perkins, Brody Shepard and Owen Whelan also scored touchdowns. North Moore (0-2), which is coached by Asheboro resident Andrew Carrouth, has already equal last year’s regular-season loss total. The Mustangs also lost last year to Southwestern Randolph. The Eagles have already reached the 10-win mark with a bunch of non-conference matches. Southwestern Randolph’s powerhouse volleyball team will try to keep it going for another season. The Cougars, who’ve had 25 or more victories the past three seasons, begin their schedule Aug. 14 at home against Oak Grove, which had a 22-5 record last year. Southwestern Randolph, under coach Darby Kennedy, went 25-5 in 2023. The Cougars are a combined 79-14 in a three-year span. That stretch began with the 2021 state championship in Class 2A. Tim Kelly spent more than three decades in charge of the Trinity boys’ basketball team. (Randolph Record file photo) TRINITY – Tim Kelly really is ready to step away from coaching high school basketball this time. Kelly, the longtime coach at Trinity, has retired as the boys’ coach. Kelly spent 34 seasons as Trinity’s coach. That time has included 673 victories and the 2004 Class 3A state championship.
