Prep Football: Passing touchdowns propel Randleman, Eastern Randolph

RANDLEMAN – John Kirkpatrick threw five of his six touchdown passes in the first half as Randleman blew out visiting Providence Grove 42-14 on Friday night in a Piedmont Athletic Conference football game. Tyshaun Goldston made five of the touchdown catches. Those plays covered 50, 33, 34, 41 and 20 yards. Kirkpatrick threw for 218 yards, completing 13 of 22 passes. The other touchdown pass from Kirkpatrick went for 9 yards to Jeffrey Guzman. The Tigers (7-0 overall, 2-0 PAC) still haven’t allowed more than 14 points in a game. The Wildcats (5-1) also returned a blocked punt for a touchdown. Quarterback Carter Revelle ran for a touchdown from 16 yards out to begin the scoring. The Cougars prevailed 47-46 against visiting Trinity in the PAC Tournament quarterfinals Monday night. They needed a defensive stop on the game’s final possession. ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Tyshaun Goldson, Randleman, boys’ basketball

Randleman’s Tyshaun Goldston puts up a shot against South Davidson in last month’s holiday tournament. (PJ Ward-Brown/Randolph Record) Goldston, a sophomore, had quite a week in a pair of victories for the Tigers. He rolled up 19 points and six rebounds when Randleman defeated visiting Uwharrie Charter Academy 68-42.  Then came Goldston’s 15 points, six rebounds, and three blocked shots in a 49-43 victory at Providence Grove. Goldston holds team-leading marks of 16.1 points, 7.7 rebounds per game, and 2.1 blocked shots per game. With an 11-5 record entering this week, the Tigers already eclipsed last season’s eight-win mark.
