Wheatmore girls add to success in soccer with another outright PAC crown

ASHEBORO – Wheatmore’s Ellie Garrison scored three goals and Bri Hill posted two goals as the Warriors clinched another outright Piedmont Athletic Conference championship in girls’ soccer, defeating visiting Uwharrie Charter Academy 5-4 on Monday night. UCA, which dropped out of a second-place tie, received two goals from Kendal Jarrell and another from Jazmin Palma. Also Monday, second-place Providence Grove zipped past host Eastern Randolph 9-0 with three goals apiece from Rylee Stover and Taryn Waugh. Wheatmore, girls’ swimming Hall was part of victories in four events as the Warriors won last week’s Piedmont Athletic Conference championships. She won the 100-meter butterfly, 100 backstroke and took part in two first-place relays in competition at High Point Swim Club. Her backstroke time of 1 minute, 21.72 seconds reflected nearly a 17-second winning margin. Wheatmore was the clear team winner with 84 points to 54 for second-place Providence Grove among the five teams that were entered. College Notes: Ex-Wheatmore soccer players make marks as freshmen; Foust starts for Lynchburg; Oakley places in Las Vegas

Freshman Summer Bowman was part of one of the best seasons in Appalachian State women’s soccer history. Bowman, a former Wheatmore player, compiled four goals and three assists. She was second on the team in goals and her 11 points ranked third on the team. Bowman, a forward, appeared in 15 games, starting nine of those. The Mountaineers placed third in the Sun Belt regular season for its best winning percentage in conference play with a 6-2-2 mark.
