Randleman, boys’ basketball Price has been one of the main forces behind Randleman’s strong season. The Tigers entered the week with a 14-4 record, just one victory away from last season’s win total and in position to improve from last season’s fourth-place spot in the Piedmont Athletic Conference. Wheatmore, girls’ swimming Hall was part of victories in four events as the Warriors won last week’s Piedmont Athletic Conference championships. She won the 100-meter butterfly, 100 backstroke and took part in two first-place relays in competition at High Point Swim Club. Her backstroke time of 1 minute, 21.72 seconds reflected nearly a 17-second winning margin. ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Jordin George

Southwestern Randolph, girls’ basketball‌ George has been a productive contributor throughout the season for the Cougars, who are one of the area’s top teams in girls’ basketball. She’s a versatile sophomore. The Cougars won two games last week by defeating Eastern Randolph, with George scoring a team-high 15 points, and Wheatmore. That pushed the team’s record to 14-2. Last month, George was named Most Valuable Player of the SportsTone.net Invitational at Asheboro when the Cougars won three games on the way to the holiday tournament championship.

Uwharrie Charter Academy, wrestling McArthur continues to rack up victories during his senior season on the mats. He has been a regular qualifier for the state tournament during his career with the Eagles. He has moved up to the middle weights, often competing at 138 pounds. UCA is coming off another big week in duals. First, there was a 72-6 victory against Eastern Randolph in the Piedmont Athletic Conference. Then in a two-day home dual-meet event, the Eagles defeated Cary 53-18, Greensboro Grimsley 47-18, New Bern 49-21, North Rowan 78-6, Northern Guilford 58-15, Pisgah 40-33 and Western Harnett 78-6. ‌

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Kynnedi Routh

 Wheatmore, girls’ basketball ‌Routh has been a contributor for Wheatmore during what has been a bounce-back season for the Warriors. Wheatmore placed third in the Ledford Christmas Tournament last week. Routh, a junior, has been among the consistent scorers for the Warriors, who’ve had a relatively balanced attack. In the tournament, Wheatmore won 51-26 vs. host Ledford before falling 51-41 to East Davidson. The Warriors capped their tournament participation by defeating West Davidson 53-32. With a 9-4 record entering January, the Warriors have matched last season’s win total. Routh also played on the school’s volleyball team.

 Trinity, boys’ basketball Campbell has been a solid player for the Bulldogs, averaging in double-figure points this season. He was slightly above 10 points per game last season. The senior forward has been a good complement for high-scoring teammate Dominic Payne. His ability to produce offensively has given Trinity some versatility. Campbell is a two-time All-PAC selection in basketball. Campbell has been an all-conference choice in track and field as well. Providence Grove, girls’ basketball ‌Ingram had a 25-point outing when Providence Grove won its Piedmont Athletic Conference opener by defeating visiting Uwharrie Charter Academy last week. That continues a nice trend for the Patriots, who held a 6-2 overall record through the end of last week. With that, it meant that Providence Grove had matched the team’s win total for the entire 2022-23 season. Petty, a senior guard, posted 24 points against Asheboro and 27 points against Ledford in a pair of games last week.
