MOUNT AIRY — Eastern Randolph’s football season ended in a familiar fashion. The Wildcats lost to Mount Airy. For the second season in a row, Mount Air defeated Eastern Randolph in the Class 1-A West Region semifinals. Friday night’s 42-21 outcome spelled the end for the third-seeded Wildcats (12-2), who had a 12-game winning streak end. A year ago, the season ended with a home defeat. Eastern Randolph, football Taylor has been one of the main playmakers for the Wildcats during their Piedmont Athletic Conference championship season. Taylor is a receiver who has been one of the primary targets for quarterback Carter Revelle, who has thrown for 30 touchdowns. The Wildcats (12-1) have won three games in the Class 1-A state playoffs at home. Next is Friday night’s West Region semifinal at Mount Airy. Taylor also was a key player on Eastern Randolph’s state finalist boys’ basketball team during the last school year.

RAMSEUR – Eastern Randolph is the last football team standing in Randolph County. The Wildcats won again in the Class 1-A state playoffs, rolling past visiting Hayesville 39-10 on Friday night. Lucas Smith ran for two touchdowns and Nicah Taylor had two touchdown catches. Smith also made a pair of two-point conversion receptions. UCA, baseball Brown continued his strong postseason play with a stellar Class 1-A championship series. He went 3-for-4 with a triple in the clinching game against North Moore on Saturday in Holly Springs. Combined with his one hit in Game 1, he was 4-for-7 in the state finals. That helped the junior right fielder be selected as the Most Valuable Player in the championship series.
