Schools in Randolph County react to NCHSAA league proposals

ASHEBORO – The proposed conference make-ups for the next North Carolina High School Athletic Association realignment look good to officials from most Randolph County schools. That’s not to say adjustments won’t be sought from some schools, including Southwestern Randolph. “We’re researching some things,” athletics director Chris Chapman said. The new league lineups come as the NCHSAA expands from four to eight classifications beginning in the summer to begin a four-year cycle. The initial draft of conferences was unveiled in December. Eastern Randolph, boys’ basketball Brower has been off to another strong start to a season as he’s one of the region’s most dynamic guards. A senior, he’s averaging 21.3 points per game. His 22-point outing against visiting Asheboro on Friday night was another example of his production. Brower has Eastern Randolph’s top totals in 3-point baskets and free throws, while also leading the Wildcats with 3.7 assists per game. RAMSEUR – Timothy Brower scored 22 points and Eastern Randolph pulled out a 66-50 victory against visiting Asheboro in Friday night’s non-conference boys’ basketball game. The Wildcats posted 20 of the game’s last 24 points. Tyler Gee scored 10 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter and Camden Jones finished with 16 points. For Asheboro, Jewel Barrett-Riggins had 14 points and Osiris Rodriguez notched 10 points. New league alignments within the NCHSAA begin by summer Randolph County schools will be spread out when it comes to conference affiliations based on an initial draft sent to schools from the North Carolina High School Athletic Association. Asheboro might have new league partners, while UCA bumps up Schools in Randolph County will continue to be spread across three classifications in an upcoming realignment, but there’s a different makeup regarding the schools within the North Carolina High School Athletic Association. Asheboro, in particular, could have some new company in terms of fellow conference members. The NCHSAA is expanding from four to eight classifications beginning with the next school year.
