The Patriots knocked off state power Randleman and ended a multi-year streak of domination. “Probably was unexpected,” Providence Grove coach Glen Hunt said. “Not a lot of people thought we could go in and win that game.” Providence Grove’s 3-2 victory halted Randleman’s 38-game winning streak against conference opponents that spread across parts of five seasons. Austin Lemons homered in Randleman’s 11-6 home victory against Uwharrie Charter Academy in the Piedmont Athletic Conference. Troy Carver homered for UCA. Wheatmore, baseball Kimball has been a boost at the plate for the Warriors in their quest for a turnaround season. Wheatmore won three of four games in a seven-day span. That included two victories against Eastern Randolph in Piedmont Athletic Conference play and a non-league triumph at West Davidson. Earlier this month, Kimball, a senior, had a hit in each game against Randleman. He homered in one of those two games. The Warriors, who haven’t had a winning season since 2018, entered this week with a 5-5 overall record.

The two-time reigning Class 2-A state champions are cranking out victories on a regular basis. “We’ve had some tough games that we’ve battled through,” shortstop Hunter Atkins said. “We’ve just been competing. HERMON – Brent Haynes took his Eastern Randolph baseball team to face his alma mater Wednesday night, but he was watching from a distance for the final few innings. So the outcome didn’t go as preferred for the Wildcats, who had late-game struggles in a 17-11 road loss to Southern Alamance. A controversial play in the bottom of the fourth inning stirred emotions after what already was shaping up as a high-scoring game. Trinity, baseball Hill has helped Trinity to an unbeaten start in Piedmont Athletic Conference play through four games. In last week’s series-opening victory against Southwestern Randolph, the senior right-hander was the winning pitcher by working five innings and allowing one earned run in Trinity’s 16-6 romp. Hill also had a double in that game. The Bulldogs and defending champion Randleman were the only teams without a loss in league play through the first two weeks of the PAC season.

The Tigers posted two shutouts against Eastern Randolph, winning 9-0 at home in the first matchup and then two nights later prevailing 5-0 in Ramseur. Austin Lemons was the winner in the second meeting. The Tigers haven’t lost a conference game since 2019. Providence Grove and Southwestern Randolph split a pair of games to open their PAC schedules.
