NEWTON – Randleman’s boys’ basketball team kept its season alive with Tuesday night’s 62-59 victory against Newton-Conover in the third round of the Class 2-A state playoffs. Tyshaun Goldston scored 21 points for the sixth-seeded Tigers (23-5), who’ll play Friday night at second-seeded Salisbury (26-3) in a West Region semifinal Connor Cassidy’s 18 points and Greg Price’s 11 points also boosted Randleman, which held on after leading 52-41 going to the fourth quarter. Randleman and Eastern Randolph won Friday night in the West Region’s second round. Trinity, boys’ basketball Payne keeps pouring in big point totals and he moved to No. 2 all-time in Trinity’s boys’ basketball history last week. The senior guard has compiled more than 2,200 points in his career. He passed Josh Pittman (2,187 points) in a Piedmont Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal last week against Eastern Randolph. RANDLEMAN – Randleman tightened its stronghold on Piedmont Athletic Conference girls’ basketball. The Tigers won the PAC Tournament for the third year in a row. Friday night’s home victory against second-seeded Southwestern Randolph came with Chenleigh Robinson tallying 19 points and Audra Petty providing 17 points. Southwestern Randolph (23-4) received 14 points from Jordin George and nine points from Macy Allred. The Cougars are 0-3 vs. Randleman this season. Randleman has gone three consecutive seasons without a loss in PAC competition. The Tigers will be going for a third consecutive tournament title if they top the winner of a game between fourth-seeded Uwharrie Charter Academy and fifth-seeded Wheatmore in the semifinal round.
