State playoffs: Randleman boys move to West Region semifinals with road victory; Wildcats fall in Class 1-A

NEWTON – Randleman’s boys’ basketball team kept its season alive with Tuesday night’s 62-59 victory against Newton-Conover in the third round of the Class 2-A state playoffs. Tyshaun Goldston scored 21 points for the sixth-seeded Tigers (23-5), who’ll play Friday night at second-seeded Salisbury (26-3) in a West Region semifinal Connor Cassidy’s 18 points and Greg Price’s 11 points also boosted Randleman, which held on after leading 52-41 going to the fourth quarter. Randleman and Eastern Randolph won Friday night in the West Region’s second round. RANDLEMAN – Randleman tightened its stronghold on Piedmont Athletic Conference girls’ basketball. The Tigers won the PAC Tournament for the third year in a row. Friday night’s home victory against second-seeded Southwestern Randolph came with Chenleigh Robinson tallying 19 points and Audra Petty providing 17 points. Southwestern Randolph (23-4) received 14 points from Jordin George and nine points from Macy Allred. The Cougars are 0-3 vs. Randleman this season.
