The Cougars benefitted from five touchdown runs from Nathan Ellis in Friday night’s 32-13 football victory at Asheboro. Three Southwestern Randolph players rushed for 80 or more yards and that type of ball control kept Asheboro (1-4) off balance in the final non-conference game for both teams. Southwestern Randolph, boys’ soccer Ortiz was a major contributor in three victories last week for Southwestern Randolph. He supplied a goal against both Trinity and North Davidson after earlier in the week notching an assist against Providence Grove. The Cougars have been a strong team in racking up a nine-game winning streak entering this week. Through 11 games, they’ve outscored their opponents by a cumulative score of 54-9. Ortiz is a sophomore midfielder.

Southwestern Randolph set to induct first class into Hall of Fame

ASHEBORO – The first class for the Southwestern Randolph Hall of Fame will be inducted this week and it’s quite a blast from the past. Fourteen individuals were selected for the honor. A ceremony will be held in the school cafeteria Friday prior to the football game vs. Albemarle. The group will also be recognized at halftime of the game. The fathers of both athletics director Chris Chapman and football coach Seth Baxter are in the induction class. The Eagles solidified that reputation by sweeping visiting Randleman last Thursday. That pushed UCA’s overall record to 9-0.
