Prep Football: Passing touchdowns propel Randleman, Eastern Randolph

RANDLEMAN – John Kirkpatrick threw five of his six touchdown passes in the first half as Randleman blew out visiting Providence Grove 42-14 on Friday night in a Piedmont Athletic Conference football game. Tyshaun Goldston made five of the touchdown catches. Those plays covered 50, 33, 34, 41 and 20 yards. Kirkpatrick threw for 218 yards, completing 13 of 22 passes. The other touchdown pass from Kirkpatrick went for 9 yards to Jeffrey Guzman. The Tigers (7-0 overall, 2-0 PAC) still haven’t allowed more than 14 points in a game. Eastern Randolph goes for its third consecutive PAC championship. The Wildcats’ biggest challenge might come from Randleman. Those teams conveniently meet in the regular-season finale Oct. 27 at Randleman. There’s plenty to sort through prior to that potential showdown. Southwestern Randolph, boys’ soccer Ortiz was a major contributor in three victories last week for Southwestern Randolph. He supplied a goal against both Trinity and North Davidson after earlier in the week notching an assist against Providence Grove. The Cougars have been a strong team in racking up a nine-game winning streak entering this week. Through 11 games, they’ve outscored their opponents by a cumulative score of 54-9. Ortiz is a sophomore midfielder.
