Randolph County’s agricultural center receives $1 million grant funding

ASHEBORO – The construction project for the new agricultural center in Randolph County is in its infancy, but some key funding has been secured to assist in the programing. The Golden LEAF Foundation announced a $1 million grant for equipment to support training for farmers at the agricultural center in Randolph County. “It’s part of the funding we’re seeking for this project,” said Kenneth Sherin, director of the Randolph County Extension. “We were going to be seeking money through grants. ASHEBORO – Early voting for the March primary begins this week in Randolph County. The early voting window runs Feb. 15 through March 2. There are national, statewide and local contests on the primary ballot. In Randolph County, there are three Republicans on the primary ballot for the board of commissioners in District 5. They are incumbent Maxton McDowell of Asheboro along with Chris McLeod of Denton and Lester Rivenbark of Asheboro. ASHEBORO – The next county manager for Randolph County will come from a city within the county. The county’s Board of Commissioners announced the hiring of Archdale city manager Zeb Holden. He has been in that position in Archdale since 2016 for part of a total of 19 years in local government. ASHEBORO – “The Veteran’s Battlefield” is a documentary that focuses on challenges for North Carolina veterans and it’s a valuable production as it relates to Randolph County, Hope Haywood said. “We’re working to have healthier veterans right here in our communities,” said Haywood, a county commissioner. The first of the documentary’s three screenings in Randolph County drew four dozen attendees Sunday to Sunset Theatre in Asheboro. Haywood, who’s the county’s liaison for the documentary, said among the goals is to bring awareness to the plights of veterans in the county.
