The outcome wasn’t secure until Kai Matthews’ interception. Matthews earlier scored a touchdown on a rushing play. Laughlin threw for 225 yards on 16-for-24 passing. TJ Mark also intercepted a pass for Asheboro’s defense. Brown is in his first season with the Blue Comets after coming from Providence Grove. Asheboro High School seeks community interest ASHEBORO – The first Blue Comets Fan Fest for Asheboro High School athletics will be held Friday night at Lee Stone Stadium on campus. Asheboro, boys’ golf Elliott wrapped up his high school career by tying for 57th in the Class 3-A state tournament this spring. Elliott was a member of the Mid-Piedmont Conference all-conference team for the third year in a row. He was a three-time regional qualifier (while his freshman season in 2020 was cut short by the pandemic). Elliott has competed in numerous youth and amateur tournaments. ** During the summer, we recognize seniors from the past school year.

JEFFERSON – Asheboro golfer Sam Davidson has made a habit of runner-up finishes. Davidson tied for second place in the North Carolina Amateur, a four-round event that ended Sunday. The winner was UNC Wilmington golfer Walker Isley of Oak Island. Isley shot a 3-under-par 281 at Jefferson Landing. Davidson, a rising senior at Guilford College, and Winston-Salem’s Davis Womble, a former college golfer for Wake Forest, finished at 1-under.
