UCA, Trinity eye next rounds of wrestling duals

Defending Class 1-A state champion Uwharrie Charter Academy and undefeated Class 2-A team Trinity held up their ends to begin the wrestling dual team state playoffs. They're tops-seeded teams and looked the part when those competitions began Saturday with two rounds on their respective home mats. UCA and Trinity advanced to this week’s third round, which is set for Wednesday. Winners in the third round meet against in regional finals later Wednesday. RAMSEUR – Eastern Randolph is the last football team standing in Randolph County. The Wildcats won again in the Class 1-A state playoffs, rolling past visiting Hayesville 39-10 on Friday night. Lucas Smith ran for two touchdowns and Nicah Taylor had two touchdown catches. Smith also made a pair of two-point conversion receptions. Wheatmore, girls’ soccer Walls, a forward and midfielder, was one of the seniors on the Warriors’ state runner-up team. Walls was the fourth-leading scorer on an offensive powerhouse. She cranked out 11 goals and provided five assists. She also occasionally took corner kicks for the Warriors.
