Wheatmore, baseball Kimball has been a boost at the plate for the Warriors in their quest for a turnaround season. Wheatmore won three of four games in a seven-day span. That included two victories against Eastern Randolph in Piedmont Athletic Conference play and a non-league triumph at West Davidson. Earlier this month, Kimball, a senior, had a hit in each game against Randleman. He homered in one of those two games. The Warriors, who haven’t had a winning season since 2018, entered this week with a 5-5 overall record.

SILER CITY — Mountaire Farms is partnering with churches and non-profit organizations in four states to provide complete meals for families in need at Easter. The event for Siler City comes Friday morning. Employees and volunteers will be packing and distributing 5,000 meal boxes to pre-registered groups, according to information from the company. There will be no walk-ups for this event, as all boxes are already reserved for families, churches and non-profits. NC congressional delegation honors Coble 

Members of North Carolina’s congressional delegation donned their madras jackets on Friday, March 24, to honor the late Howard Coble on his 92nd birthday. A Republican who lived in Greensboro, Coble served in the U.S. House of Representatives for 30 years representing the Triad and surrounding areas. He died in 2015.  Coble was a graduate of Appalachian State University and earned his law degree from UNC-Chapel Hill. He served in the Coast Guard and served two terms in the North Carolina House of Representatives following a stint as the state’s Revenue secretary. Rep. ASHEBORO — Moses Cone Memorial Hospital has filed a certificate of need application with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services to relocate a linear accelerator and CT simulator to develop a new cancer center with medical and radiation oncology services. It would be part of the Cone Health Cancer Center. The project is expected to cost $32.5 million and would be completed in October 2024. TRINITY – Uwharrie Ridge Six-Twelve in Randolph County has a vision to immerse students in 21st-century skills in order to guide them to make decisions related to their future goals. Uwharrie Charter Academy, softball Brewer drove in runs last week in a pair of victories for the Eagles. Brewer, a senior, scored two runs and knocked in a row against Trinity. She had two hits, two runs batted in, and scored in a run in a game at Asheboro. She was credited with two stolen bases in each game. Search warrant leads to drug trafficking arrest in Asheboro

The Asheboro Police Department executed a search warrant at the Park Place apartment complex on S. Church Street this past week, which resulted in one arrest for drug trafficking. According to a police report, the department’s Vice and Narcotics Unit executed the search warrant and seized 15.1 grams of white power that field-tested positive as fentanyl, 22.4 grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and over $700 dollars in cash. Tierra Meyon Johnson was arrested and charged with several felony drug charges, including the trafficking of opium/heroin. ASHEBORO — The Pizza Inn project in Asheboro seems back on track. The opening of the restaurant at 1216 East Dixie Dr. could be coming soon. Progress has been made at the site of the former home to Uptown Charlie. The Texas-based pizza chain had dubbed the Asheboro location for the first reveal of its new design. While that was intended to happen by late 2022, the marketing drum for the restaurant has begun to beat again.
