Team members and fans of the Southwestern Randolph Middle School boys’ basketball team enjoyed the outcome of the Randolph County championships Saturday at Providence Grove High School. They contributed to a spirited atmosphere. The Southwestern Randolph Middle School team coached by Benji Cole defeated Northeastern Randolph Middle School 45-29 in the title game. Randleman, boys’ basketball Price has been one of the main forces behind Randleman’s strong season. The Tigers entered the week with a 14-4 record, just one victory away from last season’s win total and in position to improve from last season’s fourth-place spot in the Piedmont Athletic Conference. Price, a guard, is the only senior among the main rotation of players for the Tigers. He’s averaging 13.5 points per game, ranking second on the team. In surprise event, NC awards nearly $30M to renovate South Asheboro Middle School

ASHEBORO — Asheboro City Schools (ACS) board members and executives were surprised by representatives from the state Department of Public Instruction (DPI) and the General Assembly today with the announcement of a $29.7 million needs-based grant award to revitalize the 62-year-old South Asheboro Middle School. The award comes after more than 100 applications from over 50 school districts were sent to the DPI for awards out of the $400 million Needs-Based Public School Capital Fund, a capital expenditure-focused program funded by the General Assembly with proceeds from the lottery. Wheatmore, girls’ swimming Hall was part of victories in four events as the Warriors won last week’s Piedmont Athletic Conference championships. She won the 100-meter butterfly, 100 backstroke and took part in two first-place relays in competition at High Point Swim Club. Her backstroke time of 1 minute, 21.72 seconds reflected nearly a 17-second winning margin.
