ASHEBORO – The Asheboro Police Department is taking applications for its 2024 Citizen’s Academy, a nine-week program covering numerous aspects of law enforcement in Asheboro. Topics covered include arrest techniques, investigations, an overview of the Asheboro Police Department’s structure and specialized units, and a ride-along with an officer for a shift. Classes are held once per week and is designed to help educate the community on law enforcement operations, and to help officers and the community get to know each other better. Trinity suffered its first PAC loss of the season when host Eastern Randolph won 81-77 in Friday night’s game at Ramseur. Department of Adult Correction) LIBERTY – A Raleigh prisoner with Randolph County ties was apprehended near Ramsey Julian Road in Liberty on Friday at least a couple of hours after he left a Raleigh work site. Ronnie Dwayne East, 41, was captured by Randolph County sheriff’s deputies around 5:10 p.m. He had been discovered missing shortly after 3 p.m. based on information from the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction. RANDLEMAN — Fire crews from across Randolph County responded to a fire at the old Worthville Mill on Russell Walker Avenue in Randleman on Saturday. Southwestern Randolph, girls’ basketball‌ George has been a productive contributor throughout the season for the Cougars, who are one of the area’s top teams in girls’ basketball. She’s a versatile sophomore. The Cougars won two games last week by defeating Eastern Randolph, with George scoring a team-high 15 points, and Wheatmore. That pushed the team’s record to 14-2. Last month, George was named Most Valuable Player of the SportsTone.net Invitational at Asheboro when the Cougars won three games on the way to the holiday tournament championship.

TRINITY – Trinity’s wrestling team has rolled into the final week of the regular season with numerous accomplishments and visions of even more.
