Faith Christian, cross country Gaines, a senior, is the individual championship in the North Carolina Christian School Association, winning last Thursday at Ivey Redmon Sports Complex in Kernersville. She ran the 3.1 miles in 21 minutes, 36.36 seconds. Her winning margin was about 22 seconds on Bethel Christian senior Emmalee Rhem. Gaines won the NCCSA individual state championship for the third time in four years.

Asheboro seeks public input on new greenway project

ASHEBORO — The City of Asheboro is in the process of gathering public input for a proposed 1.8-mile greenway, envisioned to start at Vision Drive and extend northward along Haskett Creek to West Central Avenue. The project, which has been in development since July, is currently in the feasibility study stage. Hirschman won for the third year in a row in the 125-lap Modifieds feature Saturday. He posted his ninth victory (five at Caraway, four at Concord Speedway) in the North-South Shootout, which has been held 21 times. It worked out well for a couple of Randolph County football teams playing home games Friday night when the state playoffs began. Not so much for teams going on the road. Eastern Randolph and Randleman were the lone county teams to keep their seasons alive. Two of the five Piedmont Athletic Conference football teams reaching the state playoffs will begin with home games. RANDLEMAN – Carter Revelle threw 39 yards to Nicah Taylor for a third-quarter touchdown in a 22-21 victory against previously undefeated Randleman on Friday night in the regular-season finale to determine the Piedmont Athletic Conference championship. The Wildcats (9-1 overall, 5-0 PAC) have gone unbeaten in 15 games in the conference’s current configuration. Revelle threw for two touchdowns, completing 12 of 16 passes for 162 yards.
