Prep girls: Randleman looks to run through PAC Tournament at home

RANDLEMAN – One victory is all it will take for Randleman to reach the Piedmont Athletic Conference Tournament championship on its home court in girls’ basketball. The Tigers will be going for a third consecutive tournament title if they top the winner of a game between fourth-seeded Uwharrie Charter Academy and fifth-seeded Wheatmore in the semifinal round. Other matchups at the beginning of the week pitted sixth-seeded Eastern Randolph at third-seeded Providence Grove and seventh-seeded Trinity visiting second-seeded Southwestern Randolph. Randolph County’s agricultural center receives $1 million grant funding

ASHEBORO – The construction project for the new agricultural center in Randolph County is in its infancy, but some key funding has been secured to assist in the programing. The Golden LEAF Foundation announced a $1 million grant for equipment to support training for farmers at the agricultural center in Randolph County. “It’s part of the funding we’re seeking for this project,” said Kenneth Sherin, director of the Randolph County Extension. “We were going to be seeking money through grants. ASHEBORO – Early voting for the March primary begins this week in Randolph County. The early voting window runs Feb. 15 through March 2. There are national, statewide and local contests on the primary ballot. In Randolph County, there are three Republicans on the primary ballot for the board of commissioners in District 5. They are incumbent Maxton McDowell of Asheboro along with Chris McLeod of Denton and Lester Rivenbark of Asheboro. Randolph County hires Archdale’s Holden as next county manager

ASHEBORO – The next county manager for Randolph County will come from a city within the county. The county’s Board of Commissioners announced the hiring of Archdale city manager Zeb Holden. He has been in that position in Archdale since 2016 for part of a total of 19 years in local government. Trinity, wrestling Dennis is wrapping up another stellar season for the Bulldogs. He won four matches last week to win the Class 2-A Midwest Regional at 132 pounds. He recorded two pins and a technical fall before defeating East Surry’s Michael Fischer 6-2 in the final. Dennis, a senior, holds a 49-1 record this season. Last February, he placed fifth in the state at 126. He received All-Piedmont Athletic Conference recognition the past two years.
